Hamšík has been the Slovakian captain since he was 20. He is one of their star players and excluding injuries he is a certain starter in an attacking mdifield position for Slovakia. Some media commentators, using the link that he both carries the hopes of a nation and plays for Napoli have rushed to link him to Diego Maradona. Could Slovakia win the world cup? Unlikely, but they could well emulate the successes of smaller European nations such as Croatia or Turkey at previous tournaments.
Commitment to shirt number? Absolute devotee. Hamšík has worn the number 17 shirt at both Brescia and Napoli as well as consistently during his international career. He even has a 17 within his own signature. Marek Hamšík is absolutely worthy of the number 17.
