Likelihood of starting the tournament?
He started every match for them in the Confederations Cup 2009, however this was under a different coach and since he has a relatively poor season at Twente, where the performances of other players forced him to spend a lot of time on the bench for the Dutch champions. His appearances are now limited to coming on as a substitute, but he did it on home turf last year and perhaps he could this year.
Commitment to shirt number? The number 17 shirt has pedigree in South Africa due to former hero Benni McCarthy wearing the jersey. As you can see in the Guatemala video above, he was wearing 15 in that game. However with McCarthy getting cut from the squad Parker has reclaimed the number he wore both for Bafana Bafana at the Confederations Cup and for his former side in South Africa. Could his drop in form be due to his lack of wearing 17 at Twente? The number is certainly special to him, like Marek Hamsik he includes 17 within his signature (3.35 in this video).
